Memorial Honoree Ceremony, Nicklaus Clinic and Military Appreciation Day highlight Wednesday schedule of events

One of the strongest fields in golf is set to descend on Muirfield Village Golf Club when the four tournament rounds for the 38th Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance are held May 30-June 2, and it is shaping up to be one of the best in the history of the top-flight PGA TOUR event founded and hosted by golf great Jack Nicklaus.

But before the competition begins on Thursday, patrons will be treated to a full slate of events scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, starting at 8:30 a.m. EDT with the Nationwide Invitational at the Memorial, the official Pro-Am of the Tournament. Tournament Honoree Raymond Floyd and Memorial Golf Journalism Honoree David Kindred will be featured during the Memorial Honoree Ceremony at 3 p.m., followed by the Jack Nicklaus Clinic on the newly renovated practice facility at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony and clinic joined the Wednesday lineup last year and continue to anchor the day. Wednesday also is Military Appreciation Day. Patrons with an active, retired or spouse (includes immediate family) military ID receive complimentary admission to the Tournament. Junior golf fans also receive complimentary admission with a ticketed adult on Wednesday. As a part of Junior Golf Day, all youth 18 years of age and under receive a free junior ticket, which was designed by a young Tournament fan. A fun-filled Wednesday is capped off with the Tournament’s annual Junior Golf Clinic, held at 5:30 p.m. at Safari Golf Club across from the Columbus Zoo.

In addition to the practice facility and main entrance adjacent to the range that were introduced last year, 2013 patrons will enjoy the stunning views of the 45,000 square feet of renovations to the Clubhouse, all new Fitness Building and six new suites that connect the Clubhouse and the Pavilion.
Enhancing the Memorial Tournament experience are several fan engagement initiatives.
For the first time in golf, a 360-degree photo will be taken of crowds at the Memorial Tournament with the Nationwide GalleryCam! Be there and then tag yourself in the photo to share via social media. For more information, including dates and times visit www.thememorialtournament.com/
Two new on-course Social Media activation locations are available to patrons this year. The Memorial’s Digital Hubs opened today, and are located in the heart of the action between the 14th and 18th fairways and between the 6th green and 7th fairway. The Digital Hubs are the official on-site venues for Social Media officially released by the Memorial Tournament, featuring special guest appearances, Tournament content and trivia via all new touch screen kiosks, on-course contests, tablet and smartphone stations, Tournament coverage and more.

The Nationwide Digital House returns beginning Wednesday, May 29, and is located near the Tournament’s Patron Information Center adjacent to the practice facility. It is an excellent complement to the Tournament’s Digital Hubs and features: Nationwide social media streams, giant screen running aggregated Twitter feeds, exclusive interviews with golf personalities, and more.

Additional initiatives include: XM radios with added FM band to follow the Tournament action compliments of Nationwide Insurance; the Memorial Tournament iPhone and Android app with access to an interactive course map, live scoring, contests, Tournament updates and more.

The Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance has partnered with City of Dublin to make Safe Ride Taxi available to Memorial patrons. Safe Ride vouchers are designed to help reduce the number of impaired drivers that each year are responsible for 44% of deaths in Franklin County due to motor vehicle crashes (according to 2012 Ohio Department of Public Safety Crash Statistics).

The vouchers are worth $10 toward a taxi ride for patrons leaving the Tournament. Vouchers will be distributed when appropriate, and taxis are available at the No. 6 tee lot, located on the east side of Dublin Road (Rt. 745), across from the No.6 tee gate and south of the Glick Road intersection.

All-week Patron Badges to the 2013 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance are available to the general public. The badges, valid through June 2, cost $155 and include three complimentary any-day Practice Round tickets at no extra cost. As always, kids 12 and under can attend for free, and kids 18 and under are admitted free on Wednesday for Junior Golf Day. The public may call the Tournament Ticket Office 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 877-MT BADGE to purchase badges. Daily tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday practice rounds are also available. The cost is $30, and they are valid for all three practice-round days. Additionally, 2013 Memorial Tournament patrons can purchase tickets to The Presidents Cup 2013 at a special rate of $185 for Grounds tickets or $310 for Captains’ Club tickets (per ticket price). Offer valid through May 26, 2013.
