Golf legend Jack Nicklaus named to Board of Advisors for Warrior Canine Connection

Warrior Canine Connection, an organization that utilizes canine therapy for the treatment of service members with post-traumatic stress and mild traumatic brain injuries, today announced that Jack Nicklaus has joined its Board of Advisors as an honorary member.
Mr. Nicklaus’ appointment will play an important role in raising visibility for the organization and the services it provides to wounded Warriors and disabled Veterans.

“I am a lifelong lover of dogs, and I’m pleased to be able to support an organization that utilizes them to help the many deserving Veterans who deal with the visible and invisible wounds of war,” Mr. Nicklaus said. “We have all witnessed the unselfish acts of sacrifice and heroism from the men and women who defend our freedom. The price they pay is often tragic, whether it is loss of limb or loss of life. There is never too much we can do for them and their families. I never had the privilege to serve our country, but I am a very proud American. And I have such a deep-rooted admiration for the men and women who have served. For what these men and women have given to us and for us, I consider it an honor and privilege to be involved with any effort such as this.”
Mr. Nicklaus, known throughout his professional career as the Golden Bear, has a history of supporting charities to benefit our wounded and disabled veterans. Among the many efforts he supports, Mr. Nicklaus serves as Honorary Chair for the American Lake Veterans Golf Course in Tacoma, Washington, a course designed solely for the rehabilitation of wounded and disabled veterans. He has donated his design services for the improvement of the course, and he helped raise contributions for the addition of nine new holes and the construction of the Rehabilitation and Learning Center.

Mr. Nicklaus’ competitive career spanned five decades, and his legend has been built with 120 professional tournament victories worldwide and a record 18 professional major-championship titles (six Masters, five PGA Championships, four U.S. Opens, three British Opens). He was a unanimous selection by media worldwide as Golfer of the Century and was Sports Illustrated’s Individual Athlete of the 20th Century. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor bestowed on a U.S. civilian. Most recently, he received the Award of Merit from the National Golf Course Owners Association, their highest honor. In July 2013, Jack received the Ambassador of Golf Award, presented annually to a person who has fostered the ideals of the game on an international level and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course. To that end, Jack and his wife, Barbara, have a long history of involvement in numerous charitable activities, from junior golf to children’s hospitals to several scholarship foundations.
“We are excited that one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of professional golf and a brilliant businessman is providing his expertise to our organization,” said Rick Yount, founder and executive director of Warrior Canine Connection.
