Jack Nicklaus Plans Inaugural Round at Old Greenwood,
North Lake Tahoe's Only Jack Nicklaus Signature Resort Course

Old Greenwood, the new four-season resort community located only minutes from historic downtown Truckee, features North Lake Tahoe's only Jack Nicklaus Signature resort golf course. On August 30, the Golden Bear himself will play a special inaugural round on his latest masterpiece. The course and surrounding community are being developed by East West Partners under their Tahoe Mountain Resorts brand.

Before an intimate crowd of homeowners, media, and corporate sponsors, Nicklaus will play the 18 hole course to make sure it's up to his lofty standards. He already knows the property itself is as good as it gets. During the course's construction, Nicklaus commented that "Here, we have majestic pines, snow-capped mountains and rolling terrain. You can't ask for more."

The August 30 inaugural round is part of a larger two-day celebration called the Old Greenwood Inaugural Event hosted by Tahoe Mountain Resorts and Crescent Real Estate Equities. Invited guests will not only have the opportunity to watch Nicklaus play his newest golf course, but will be entertained with a concert by platinum-record recording artist Edwin McCain. On Tuesday, August 31, invited guests will get their own chance to beat the Bear. The Old Greenwood Open Pro-Am will be played on the same course that Jack played the previous day, with the tees and pin placements on the course left unchanged. Playing with each foursome will be some of the finest directors of golf and teaching professionals from across the country. Punctuating the day will be the world's most renowned trick shot artist, Chuck "The Hitman." The name Jack Nicklaus is synonymous with superior golf course design, a result of Nicklaus's more than four decades as a champion professional golfer and three decades as a renowned golf course designer. The Old Greenwood course has the designation of a "Jack Nicklaus Signature Course," which signifies the legendary golfer's personal attention and involvement in every aspect of the course's design and development.

The course is set to open for play to the general public by August 15. The Nicklaus course will play up to 7,542 yards. The course will sit at an elevation of 6,000 feet, where tee-shots can travel 10 to 15 percent farther than at sea level. This will be a challenging course for even the best of players, but still playable and enjoyable for all skill levels. Four lakes, all interconnected by a series of meandering trout streams, will not only provide water hazard challenges to the golfer, but also be aesthetically pleasing and offer trout fishing opportunities. A combination of Truckee's altitude, warm sunny days, cool nights and low humidity translate into the perfect weather for golf.

In line with other projects managed by the development team at Tahoe Mountain Resorts, Old Greenwood has developed a voluntary program to integrate sustainability into its design, construction, and operation. The program is a set of "green" practices rarely applied on such a comprehensive basis in real estate development and operations. Old Greenwood is registered in the Audubon International Sustainable Development Program and is adhering to the "Gold" Signature Membership guidelines for golf courses. The Sustainable Development Program not only folds in the Signature Program for Golf Courses, but also all buildings within the community, both in construction and location. The Old Greenwood course is the only Nicklaus Design course in California in the Audubon Signature Program.

Other amenities at Old Greenwood will include a golf academy, an outdoor Swim, Tennis and Fitness Center, a clubhouse and hiking trails. All of this is located a stones throw from the many other recreational opportunities that the Lake Tahoe area has to offer, including mountain biking, flyfishing, kayaking, rafting, or taking advantage of the nearby Truckee River.
