Jack Nicklaus, The PGA of America Unveil Plans in Las Vegas
For World-Class Golf Mecca at Coyote Springs
LAS VEGAS -- Jack Nicklaus and The PGA of America have teamed up to offer golf
enthusiasts in Las Vegas and around the world a great location and reason to stay, play, live and learn at
Coyote Springs, a unique new community for residents and travelers featuring carefree golf-course
living and resort-level amenities just outside Las Vegas. To make the golf mecca a reality, Coyote
Springs Investment, LLC (CSI) has partnered with the golf legend to build a series of Jack Nicklaus
Signature Golf Courses to be known collectively as "The Bear Trail," and has partnered with The PGA
of America to build the "PGA Village" at Coyote Springs, the first true PGA of America golf destination
in the western United States.
The first phase of the multimillion-dollar project, including the golf components, is expected to
begin in Spring 2005 with an expected completion in 2006. The entire 43,000-acre community will be
developed over 40 years. Covering Clark and Lincoln counties, Coyote Springs is located between US
Highway 93 and I-15 cradled between the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin.
"At The Bear Trail, my design staff and I are excited to have the opportunity to create a truly
exceptional legacy," said Nicklaus. "Mother Nature has given us a unique canvas to work on, a mix of
dramatic, pristine desert along with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
"The courses we are now planning for Coyote Springs will use and enhance this rare landscape
to offer players of every skill level a golf experience which is enjoyable, challenging and memorable,"
Nicklaus said. "We want golfers to come back to Coyote Springs time and again, and upon each visit,
we hope they will find something new and exciting about the golf experience."
The interconnected golf courses mirror the sense of connection and community inherent in the
Coyote Springs concept, according to CSI Founder Harvey Whittemore. "Our dream is to create the
appeal of a small town by developing a series of neighborhoods and villages connecting to town centers,
where people can live, work and play in an environment designed to bring neighbors together,"
Whittemore said. "With Jack's involvement, the bar for quality related to the golf experience and the
quality of the community has been set very high. Coyote Springs will be the first community of its kind
in the West to offer so many championship-caliber courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, plus courses by
other top designers, and the PGA Village where PGA-quality experience truly comes home for
everyone. "
Whittemore said the PGA Village at Coyote Springs will be the western winter home to PGA
professionals and the host site for future PGA events. "Together with The PGA of America, the PGA
Village designation and the golf facilities that will be built at Coyote Springs, we have all the elements
of a special community that is certain to become the next great American golf destination, literally next
door to the world's most exciting vacation destination," Whittemore said.
The luxurious PGA-operated golf village will serve as the gateway to the larger community and
feature a PGA Learning Center, one of the foremost golf academies, offering focused learning
opportunities for golfers through clinics and private lessons. According to The PGA of America CEO
Jim L. Awtrey, "The PGA Village grew from a desire to provide the ultimate in golf - a fun-filled
atmosphere that enhances both skill and enjoyment of the game. The PGA Village at Coyote Springs
will offer the best possible facilities to our members and their guests and Las Vegas residents and
visitors with a growing appetite for golf."
Other acclaimed golf course designers are also expected to add their signature to the community.
Pardee Homes, one of the nation's most esteemed homebuilders, has been tapped as the master
residential builder for the first development phase.
