The 2013 Texas Mid-Amateur Championship at Cordillera Ranch

The best players in the state of Texas, ages 25 and older, will meet at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch outside of San Antonio Sept. 27-29 for the 30th Texas Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship. The Jack Nicklaus-designed layout opened for play in 2007 and later that same year was the host site for the TGA’s Texas Shootout, an elite season-ending event in which the top-12 players from north Texas squared off against their counterparts from South Texas in a Ryder Cup-style competition.

“The Texas Golf Association is extremely honored to have the opportunity to bring another statewide championship to Cordillera Ranch,” said Ryan Finn, Director of Rules & Competitions for the Texas Golf Association. “The course has already proven to be a formidable test, and it will undoubtedly present yet another stern challenge when it hosts the state’s finest amateur players this fall.”

Cordillera Ranch is an 8,700-acre gated development approximately 19 miles north of San Antonio. At the community’s centerpiece is a stunning 7,464-yard, par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature Course opened to national acclaim. Golf Inc. magazine selected Cordillera Ranch as one of five finalists in the “Private Club” category of the magazine’s 2007 “Development of the Year” competition, and LINKS magazine recognized Cordillera Ranch among “America’s 100 Premier Properties” in its 2007-2008 special issue on golf real estate.

With an abundance of natural elements to work with—towering oak trees, streams, elevation changes and dramatic rock outcroppings—Nicklaus had to move very little dirt to create a spectacular course that provides for a great diversity of shots and holes. From brawny par 4s and 5s to picturesque par 3s, Cordillera Ranch presents a memorable challenge and experience for players of all skill levels.

The Texas Mid-Amateur is open to male amateur golfers who belong to a facility that is a member of the Texas Golf Association, will have reached the age of 25 on or before September 27, 2013, have a GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 8.4, and are current Texas residents.

Entries open at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, and will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. For those not otherwise exempt, 18-hole qualifying events will be held at 12 sites across the state from Aug. 5–27.

The format for the Texas Mid-Amateur is 54 holes of individual stoke play. All contestants will play 18 holes on both Sept. 27 and Sept. 28. After 36 holes, the 132-player starting field will be cut to the low 54 players and ties heading into Sunday’s final round.
