Between Arizona's lower Sonoran desert and the pine forests of its central mountains lies a land of unique beauty. In north Scottsdale, Arizona, nestled in the mountain foothills, you will find a unique community. A community called Desert Mountain.
Surrounded by Sonoran Desert beauty, the 7,048-yard Cochise golf course is the annual site of The Tradition at Desert Mountain, which has been officially designated as on of the Senior PGA Tour's "major" tournaments and part of the Senior Slam. According to Jack, "Cochise is one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world. Cochise was chosen in 1995 by Golf Digest as one of "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses" - an honor which it also garnered in 1993. It also consistently ranks among the top 10 golf courses in Arizona in local and national golf writers polls.
With its soft, smooth slopes, Cochise has been created to put a premium on good second shots and putting. The course offers players a true test via its spectacular, rolling fairways winding through rich desert vegetation and mammoth boulder outcroppings.
Among the most memorable holes on Cochise are the par 3 seventh hole and par 5 fifteenth. The double greens for these two holes share a picturesque island approached from two directions.
