Course Overview
Welcome to Governors Club, a 27-hole golf course designed by the world's foremost name in golf, Jack Nicklaus. In his typical style, Nicklaus created this championship golf course through the enhancement of its natural surroundings. The course winds its way around the side of a mountain, through lakes and streams, and underneath towering hardwood trees.
With breathtaking views of 600-foot elevations, Governors Club will remind you of a mountain course. The course abounds in natural scenic beauty, with spectacular stone walls, rocky creeks and trees of oak and hickory.
The first nine is flatter with more of a feel of the North Carolina Sandhills. The second and third nine run up Edwards mountain, often playing from one high point to another, over low-lying fairways; or from a high to a low and back to a high area.
Among the course's many rock hazards are native boulder formations that remain in turf areas. Some greens are actually designed around these rocks.
Generous sodding around the tees, greens and bunkers adds to the lush look of the Governors Club course. The greens are planted with bent grass; while tees, fairways and rough are sodded with bermuda. Tall fescue is used in treed rough areas. Our three putting greens, practice trap and chipping green, and our practice fairway provide ideal opportunities to work on you game at Governors Club.
