Course Overview
MAYAN RESORTS GOLF PEÑASCO “PENÍNSULA”
Be enchanted by the desert and mountain scenery found in the highlands of the Sea of Cortes. The deep blue ocean and the warmth of its waters surround one of the 20 best and most fascinating golf courses in the world. Peninsula, an amazing course that Mayan Resorts Golf has created in Puerto Peñasco.
A product of the unbeatable creativity of Jack Nicklaus & Jack Nicklaus II, the 18-hole par 72 course is over 7,100 yards in length with splendid fairways and abounds with native desert vegetation. Peninsula is a uniquely challenging course that is completely surrounded by water. Almost every hole has marvelous wind-swept views of the sea or the natural estuary.
Hole 6 is the 190-yard signature par 3 with four bunkers surrounding the green and a lake with tidal surges connected to the natural estuary between the tees and green complex.
This is just the beginning of what this destination has in store for playing the most state-of-the-art sport. Mayan Resorts will inaugurate two more golf courses in this area, as well as a Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy, where golf lovers may improve on their technique while vacationing.
Bear Facts
"The site for The Peninsula is one of the better natural pieces of property we have had the opportunity to work with. It was a truly incredible piece of property. We moved very little dirt to create the greens, and instead let the existing sand dunes dictate the green complexes. It is a very naturally beautiful and pristine site, and that lends itself to a memorable golf experience."
"Many golfers have heard of a Redan hole, which was made famous by the original Redan, the 15th hole at historic North Berwick in Scotland. It is a concept that has inspired countless par-3 holes around the world, and in its simplest terms, means a hole that is protected on three sides. In the case of The Peninsula, you might say the entire golf course is a Redan concept. The site consists of a 2-mile strip of wind-blown sand dunes that are protected by the tidal estuary on its inside, the inlet to the south and the Sea of Cortez to its more exposed outside. This characteristic adds to uniqueness, the beauty and the challenge of The Peninsula." - Jack Nicklaus II
