2010 Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship Returns for Third Edition

Legend's Namesake Tournament Central to Club's Junior Golf Initiatives

(SHENZHEN, China) - Mission Hills China - developer of the world's largest golf club and impetus for China's golf boom -- announces the third annual Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship returns to Mission Hills Shenzhen's World Cup Course, May 26-28.

Since 2008, the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship has brought together young, gifted players under 18 years old. New for 2010 and evidencing its burgeoning global stature, the event will award R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points. The WAGR system ranks the world's top amateurs based on their average performance in officially-sanctioned events over the previous 52 weeks.

Competitors in four age categories will do battle over 54 holes of stroke play. Overall low scorers in the boy and girl divisions will have the opportunity to join September's Duke of York Young Champions Trophy in Scotland; they will also secure a berth in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills later this year under the condition that both of them meet the two tournaments' entry requirement respectively.

"We're honored to once again partner with Jack Nicklaus to make affordable tournament competition available for the region's best juniors," says Tenniel Chu, Executive Director, Mission Hills China. "Jack's passion for growing golf in Asia is admirable and a sentiment we share wholeheartedly."

Opened to international acclaim in 1994, the Nicklaus-designed World Cup Course was the first at Mission Hills Shenzhen. Site of more than 30 international tournaments -- including the 1995 World Cup, 2001 Tiger Woods China Challenge and inaugural 2009 Asian Amateur Championship -- it is regarded by many as the layout that signaled China's arrival on golf's world stage.

Entry fees of 1,200 RMB ($US 175) cover three rounds of tournament play, one practice round and a lunch awards ceremony. Participants must carry a handicap no higher than 18 for boys, 24 for girls. Rooms at the Mission Hills Resort Hotel or Mission Hills Savannah Wing are also available to competitors at special rates.

Adds Chu: "Regular exposure to tournament pressure is vital to cultivating the next generation of top Asian touring professionals. This guiding principle is a focal point of our junior golf initiatives."

Mission Hills' other commitments to junior golf include its role as official home of the Faldo Series Asia, creation of the Mission Hills Golf Series Junior Tour, instruction programs at its three golf academies specifically geared toward young players, and regular scheduling of clinics from greats of the game like Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo and Vijay Singh.
