Course Overview

Nicklaus Design and Jaime Said, president and founder of Patagonia Virgin Frutillar, are building the first Nicklaus Design golf course in Chile. Patagonia Virgin is an unparalleled residential development located in the picturesque town of Frutillar, in the heart of the Patagonia region of South America.

Chile, which is located at the southern tip of South America, borders the South Pacific Ocean and is nestled between Argentina and Peru. The colonial town of Frutillar sits in the Lakes Region and specifically borders Llanquihue Lake, one of the largest in the continent. Known for its historic 19th-century German architecture, Frutillar offers views of neighboring volcanoes, including Osorno, which stands as "guardian" to what many have considered one of the world's most breathtaking destinations. It is also the main cultural destination in the country besides the capital, Santiago. The “Teatro del Lago” (Theater by the Lake), open since 2011, is a spectacular concert hall, considered one of the best in Latin America, and it hosts great classical concerts and other events year-round.

Chile is considered one of the strongest and most stable of the world's emerging economies, characterized by the quality of the country's institutions, competitiveness, economic freedom and the strength of its financial system.

The golf course site itself is ideally located overlooking the great Llanquihue Lake, 450 feet above its level. The views to the lake, six volcanoes and the nearby centennial rain forest are simply marvelous. Half of the holes are links-style, with wide fairways, open views and gentle contours, but on several holes the design has taken advantage of several giant native trees sitting there since before the German colonists arrived in Chile, giving the course a very unique twist to traditional links golf. The other half of the course heavily interacts with the native forest that runs by the west side of the property, most of it with dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. This singular combination on a challenging 18 hole, 7,275-yard course, will make it one of the best in the world. The construction of the first nine holes is already in its final stage, and the course is scheduled to open for play in December 2015.

Patagonia Virgin Frutillar is the first integrated residential community in the Chilean Patagonia with a variety of residential offerings, including upscale townhouse apartments with beautiful lake views, and exclusive lots and houses surrounding the golf course. The community also includes two five-star hotels; a village by the lake consisting of high-end retail shops, restaurants, sailing club and marina; and many other amenities, including tennis courts, bike paths and a protected native forest with hiking, bird watching and horseback riding trails.
