National GC Ranked 14th in North Carolina's Top 100

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The North Carolina Golf Panel has released its Top 100 ranking for 2006 and National Golf Club remains at No. 14. This marks the third straight year National has been 14th in this respected survey of the best golf courses statewide.

The ranking covers each of the estimated 565 golf courses in North Carolina, putting National in the top 3%. The course received 2,775 points in voting by the panel's 135 members.

"We have been ranked 14th the last three years and were 15th in 2003, so it is nice to be entrenched in the upper echelon of courses in North Carolina," said Tom Parsons, director of golf. "I think our consistent ranking shows a commitment to quality from ownership, management and the staff. Our team takes pride in providing the golf experience that Mr. Nicklaus envisioned."

The Nicklaus Signature course at National opened for play in late 1988. It measures 7,122 yards from the tips and is known as a strong test of golf. The USGA has selected National as a host site for U.S. Open qualifying the last two years.

"When you're located in one of the best states in the country for golf courses, it is a challenge to be ranked among the best. We are honored that the North Carolina Golf Panel has chosen us so high on their list," said general manager Ken Crow.

The par-5 fourth hole at National Golf Club was also recognized. It was voted the second-best par-5 in the Sandhills in the panel's specialty rankings.
