Golden Entertainment acquires Rocky Gap Casino Resort

After its first full quarter since Sartini Gaming completed a $341 million merger last year with Minnesota-based Lakes Entertainment, the newly formed Golden Entertainment has acquired Rocky Gap Casino Resort inside Rocky Gap State Park, near Cumberland, Md. The 200-room hotel includes a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and is a drive of three hours or less for 10 million people.

The company is also investing $1 million to add parking at Rocky Gap. Blake Sartini, Golden Entertainment’s chairman, president and CEO, said the project will add 168 new parking spaces for a total of 746 citywide. He said on about 25 days out of the year, there haven’t been enough parking spaces to accommodate patrons.

Golden Entertainment operates 10,300 slot machines and 30 table games in four casinos and nearly 50 taverns in 770 route locations in Nevada, Maryland and Montana.

“We ended 2015 with strong quarterly results that reveal the initial benefits of the merger,” Sartini said. “In addition, we are now operational in Montana as a result of closing our distributed gaming acquisition during the month of January.”

Located among the undulating hills of the ageless Appalachian Mountains and nestled next to the blue waters of Lake Habeeb, Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort features a natural and pleasing tone.

Golfers of all skill levels are drawn to the challenges and uniqueness that this mountain course provides. The front-nine is carved from mountainous, tree lined terrain with numerous dramatic elevation changes while the back-nine is spread across expansive, gently rolling meadows. Five tee boxes per hole allow all players to adjust the level of challenge to their handicap.

Rocky Gap is a past recipient of the AAA® 4 Diamond® Award. The course has also been named to Golfweek’s lists of the Best Resort Courses, Best Casino Courses, Best State-by-State Courses You Can Play, and Best Public Courses in Every State.

“Going forward into 2016, we continue to focus on our unique growth opportunities while enhancing productivity within each of our business segments,” Sartini said.
