Sherwood opens new Lake Club featuring 2nd Nicklaus golf course

Golf legend and course designer Jack Nicklaus on hand for Ribbon-cutting ceremony

Thousand Oaks, Calif. (April 30, 2006) - In an exclusive event held Sunday, Sherwood celebrated the grand opening of its new Sherwood Lake Club showcasing a Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole, 1,965 yard, par-3 golf course. David H. Murdock, Sherwood's developer and owner, and golf legend, course designer Jack Nicklaus were on hand for presentations and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Nicklaus inaugurated the course with a ceremonial tee shot.

"Sherwood provided us a spectacular backdrop to create a unique golf course and hopefully a memorable playing experience," Nicklaus said. " Sherwood Lake Club will provide a wonderful complement to the Sherwood Country Club golf course. It should be a great deal of fun to play, but also provide an opportunity for golfers to test and develop different areas of their game. It should also be a course that gives parents the opportunity to introduce their children to the game of golf, and perhaps allow them to play and practice together. That's one of the beauties of golf - whether you are 7 or 70, you can enjoy the same game and on the same course."

Sherwood Lake Club’s stately 14,000 square foot clubhouse features a boardroom, a fully-equipped fitness center, men and women's locker rooms with saunas, plus a junior Olympic-size pool, a wading pool and an outdoor spa. Sherwood Lake Club's Grille offers dining, a lounge, and a covered terrace.

The centerpiece of Sherwood Lake Club is the Nicklaus-designed, par-3 golf course. The course is a collection of par-3 holes inspired by other Nicklaus-designed holes throughout the country including Pasadera Country Club in Monterey, California; The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida; and the famed Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. There are three sets of tees, tiered greens, and a dramatic 65-yard hole with an island green.

The course is nestled within one of Sherwood's most scenic canyons enhanced by dramatic viewscapes of rustic hillsides, a small lake and meandering creek, ancient oaks, bridges, unique rock formations and a variety of picturesque elevation changes. Particularly noteworthy is the environmental consideration given to Sherwood's riparian areas to maintain their viability and protection.

Nicklaus Design also created Sherwood Country Club’s championship course in 1989. Considered one of the country's most elite private membership clubs, its spectacular par-72, 7,025-yard course is sculpted into the natural terrain. This Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is perhaps best renowned for its nationally televised Tiger Woods tournaments including the Target World Challenge that draws top PGA Tour golfers from around the world.

Now four decades into a successful golf course design career, Jack Nicklaus is a member of the prestigious American Society of Golf Course Architects and has been decorated with every award and accolade in the industry. He is lauded for his environmentally sensitive and innovative designs as he is for his commitment to excellence as a golfer. Nicklaus Design is considered the world leader in golf course design, and has 295 courses open for play in 28 countries and 37 states within the U.S. Sherwood has been ranked among the "Top 100" national and international lists from various golf publications, and is one of at least 47 Nicklaus Design courses to be ranked in the Top 100.

Set against the dramatic Santa Monica Mountains with sublime natural beauty, Sherwood is a 1,900-acre, master-planned, guard-gated community consisting of world-class country clubs and a variety of luxurious and distinguished residential opportunities. The new Sherwood Lake Club area will include approximately 90 homes to be built over the next 4 years with prices starting in the mid-$3.5 million.

Membership in Sherwood Lake Club is available to both residents and non-residence of the Sherwood community. For information about membership,
