Course Overview
Nicklaus Design is pleased to be involved in the renovation and expansion of the Yasmine Valley in Hammamet, Tunisia. Once completed, the comprehensive 36-hole complex is certain to become a unique and high-quality attraction for local and golfers alike.
The project will be completed in two phases and result in two distinct courses that will appeal to golfers of all abilities. The first course, scheduled to be completed in October 2011, will be a par-68 layout playing to 5 000meters. The course, designed in a desert style links theme, will contrast nicely with the Championship Course and offer a completely innovative product for the Tunisian golf market. The shorter length and wider fairways of the Tahadi Course will allow beginning players the opportunity to hone their skills, while also providing the more accomplished players the chance for a fun and challenging round of golf.
The course is set up to implement numerous unique design elements. A large 1.5-hectare lake will serve as an exciting feature for players as well as the residents living alongside the course. Golfers will find one of the highlights of the course to be the short par-4 6th hole, where an island green will create an exciting challenge. Additionally, players will enjoy generous fairways and larger greens designed in a more undulating style that will test their imagination and skill. Moreover, the course will take on an open desert look that will result in a distinctive landscape that will complement the course.
While smaller in size, the course will be large on quality. The course will be built to the same high Nicklaus Design standards as the Championship Course and utilize today’s modern materials and construction techniques. The greens will be constructed to USGA specification, while great care will be taken in the construction of the drainage and irrigation systems to help ensure players will find ideally manicured playing conditions everyday. Additionally, both golf courses will utilize today’s best new turfgrasses that will provide the best playing surfaces and environmental benefits.
Phase Two of the project will begin after the opening of the Tahadi Course and include the total renovation of the existing Yasmine Golf Club. The result will bring the Classic Course in line with modern standards with a par-72, 6,600-meter championship golf course.
The Classic Course will take on a more traditional parkland style and embrace the natural topography of the site. Many of the existing holes on the course will be moved and re-routed to allow the course to make better use of the land and result in more exciting and challenging holes. While challenging for better players, Nicklaus Design has taken great care in the design and playability of both courses to ensure everyday players of all abilities will enjoy their round.
The result of the renovation will be a completely new course that will allow for some of the best playing conditions in Tunisia. All of the greens will be built to USGA specifications and the other features will be constructed to the, most exacting standards to ensure the highest quality possible. Additionally, the course will include new drainage and irrigation systems that will efficiently manage the water used on the course to ensure that the Classic Course is not only beautiful, but also environmentally friendly.
The renovation at Yasmine Valley will also include the creation of a modern, fully featured golf practice and learning center. The facility will provide ample practice area, facilities for modern golf instruction, and a short-game practice area where players and students can practice their skills.
Upon the completion of the work, Yasmine Valley will have one of the most innovative and complete golf facilities in all of Tunisia. Golfers will be able to enjoy two distinctly different golf experiences on the Classic Championship and Tahadi Courses. Yasmine Valley will also be home to a modern and extensive golf practice and learning facility. Combined with the modern, high-quality playing conditions and the world-renowned work of Nicklaus Design, Yasmine Valley will not only draw more golfers to Hammamet, but will also help strengthen Tunisia’s image as an attractive golf destination.
