Team from Ruby Hill Golf Club wins 31st Annual Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches

??????????In another extremely close competition, the team from Ruby Hill Golf Club (Pleasanton, California) won the 31st annual Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches, staged in late August in the spectacular Canadian resort destination of Nicklaus North Golf Course in Whistler, British Columbia. The Ruby Hill team edged out the Nicklaus North #1 team with scores of 251 and 250.
Seventeen teams from six states and two countries put together teams consisting of a golf professional and three members of varying skill levels to represent their respective Nicklaus Design golf course. Teams participated in scramble, best-ball and modified chapman formats in the 54-hole tournament, accumulating Stableford points for their net team score.
In taking the title, Ruby Hill Golf Club Pro Nigel Rouse and members Shane Bohen, Anu Gadre and Joel Renick finished ahead of the home team from Nicklaus North #1 with Pro Andrew Smart and members Nick Papoutsis, John Nicoll and Gordon Annand.
The teams from each bracket after the first round qualified for the popular “shootout” competition. The team from Bracket One–The Club at Hokuli’a (Kealakekua, Hawaii) with Pro Darren Sayer, Stan Freimuth, Clark Gustafson and Duane Sather, and the team from Bracket Two–Nicklaus North #2 with Pro Michael Zuccolin, Phil Goddard, Phil Patton and Craig Killian—each won the hole-by-hole elimination event.
Nicklaus North, which in 1996 was named Best New Canadian Course by Golf Digest, did an outstanding job hosting this year’s Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches. As part of the fun, the teams joined together for a group acceptance of the Nicklaus Companies’ ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which was directed to the staff at more than 380 Nicklaus Design golf courses located in 38 countries and 39 U.S. states. Watch their exciting collaborative effort here.
