2011 Memorial Tournament Honoree

The phenomenal field playing at the tournament will be participating in honor of LPGA Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez. This continues the tradition started by Jack Nicklaus that each year's tournament should be devoted, in part, to recognizing a person, living or dead, who has contributed to the game of golf.

Born January 6, 1957 in Torrance, California, Lopez turned professional in 1977 and went on to amass 48 wins on the LPGA Tour, including three major championships. While she dominated the tour in creating her Hall of Fame career, it was her charisma that brought greater attention and popularity to ladies golf. Lopez helped define the LPGA and its personality over the first two decades she was on Tour.

Watson and Valhalla winners at 2011 Senior
PGA Championship
Jack Nicklaus-designed Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., recently hosted the PGA of America's Senior PGA Championship on May 26-29. Hall of Famer Tom Watson won the event at Valhalla, making a 3-foot birdie on the first playoff hole to edge David Eger.

It was the third time a playoff has decided the outcome at Valhalla, which hosted the 1996 and 2000 PGA Championships, the '04 and '11 Senior PGAs, the 2008 Ryder Cup and the 2002 Club Pro Championship. The PGA Championship is set to return to Valhalla in 2014.

"There's a lot of history here now, and that's what makes great courses and great championships and great champions, when you have history," PGA Tour star and Kentucky native Kenny Perry said. "It will just continue to grow. Kentucky is starved for golf, and it's wonderful they are able to come here. The lure and the beauty of Kentucky and the fans is unbelievable.

The course was in pristine condition for the championship, even with a rainy spring. The front nine traverses a low-lying parkland setting, while its back nine was carved out of a higher, tree-covered terrain. The golf course features natural amphitheaters, including the 18th hole, which can accommodate 20,000 spectators.

"We finally got the rain moved out of here after being inundated early this spring," said Roger Meier, the course superintendent, who is in his first year at Valhalla. "The course has flooded six times this season, so we've spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with debris. We received 14 inches of rain the last week of April.

Red ledges again named best golf course in Utah by "Best of State" awards
Red Ledges, a premier tennis, golf and four-season recreational community located just minutes from Park City, was named Best Golf Course in Utah by Best of State Awards for the second consecutive year.

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Red Ledges features 18 holes, each with a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains. Jack Nicklaus, one of the globe's preeminent designers and the man Golf Inc. Magazine named one of the "Most Powerful People in Golf" for six straight years, designed the 7,653-yard course to incorporate and accentuate the existing landscape.

"They often say that it can be harder to repeat success than to achieve it, so Red Ledges should be proud to once again receive this recognition- and while still being less than 2 years old," said Jack Nicklaus. "That is a testament not only to the golf course, but the commitment of the ownership at Red Ledges and the hard work of the entire staff."

"We are honored to receive this recognition from Utah's premier recognition and awards program," said Mitchel Burns, Red Ledges COO. "Jack Nicklaus was very particular in the experience he wanted to create for Red Ledges' members, so it is very rewarding to be recognized for the work Jack and the Red Ledges team put into the course and design."

The Best of State awards were created to recognize excellence in states and communities.
