korea At Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, where Jack Nicklaus tonight received the Ambassador of Golf Award, Nicklaus joined PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem to announce that Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, located in the Songdo International Business District (IBD), Incheon, Korea, has been selected as the host course and Incheon City as the host city for The Presidents Cup 2015 when the event makes its first trip to Asia.

Jack Nicklaus World Golf Hall of Fame Member Jack Nicklaus, whose victories in 18 professional major championships is more than any player in history, received the 2013 Ambassador of Golf award today at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The award is presented annually to a person who has fostered the ideals of the game on an international level and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course.

Nicklaus was honored on the first tee at Firestone Country Club at an event open to fans attending the Bridgestone Invitational. Fans heard remarks from Nicklaus, his wife Barbara, who was the 1990 Ambassador of Golf, and PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem.

50 years ago this month, Jack Nicklaus won his first of a record-tying five PGA Championships. A week after falling short in his bid to win his first British Open—missing a playoff by one shot at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s—Jack went from 50-degree weather to 100-plus degrees at Dallas Athletic Club in Texas. But it was the Golden Bear who scorched the field on the weekend with rounds of 69-68.

At 23 years of age, Jack joined Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, and Gene Sarazen as the only men in golf history to win the PGA, the U.S. Open, and
the Masters.

Pick the Hole
For the first time ever, golf fans worldwide will be able to have a direct impact on the hole location of a major championship, through the newly created “PGA Championship Pick the Hole Location Challenge Hosted by Jack Nicklaus.” The Challenge will be conducted in conjunction with the 95th PGA Championship, the Season’s Final Major, at Oak Hill Country Club, in Rochester, N.Y., Aug. 5-11.

Last week’s RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Ontario, the M2M Russian Challenge at Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club in Moscow, and the USGA’s U.S. Junior Girls Championship at Sycamore Hills in Fort Wayne, Ind., shared more in common than the championship golf. All three events showcased Jack Nicklaus-designed layouts, highlighting the Golden Bear’s incredible worldwide design résumé. Add to that four other events hosted at championship-caliber Nicklaus Design courses since June. The U.S. Women’s Open, the Sanderson Farms Championship on the PGA Tour, the Regions Tradition on the Champions Tour, and the Midwest Classic Presented by Cadillac on the Web.com Tour pointed worldwide attention to Sebonack Golf Club (NY), Annandale Golf Club (Miss.), Shoal Creek (Ala.), and Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate (Kan.), respectively.

The renovated Ullna Golf Club, located in Stockholm, Sweden, was officially inaugurated in June after a complete renovation, overseen by Jack Nicklaus, that lasted almost two years.

Members were invited to play at the opening event on June 8 and their feedback on the redesign was
very favorable.

The renovation has resulted in an altogether extraordinary golf course with many strategic challenges. The Nicklaus Design team, led by Senior Design Associate Dirk Bouts and shaper Jerame Miller, successfully integrated all important playability elements in the Ullna property.

Nicklaus Design captured four of the top spots in Golf Course Architecture’s annual Architect’s Choice list of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the world. Chosen by more than 240 golf course architects, the list is a peer-to-peer design evaluation. Golf course architects were free to select their favorite courses using whichever criteria they felt was most appropriate—most often cited was location, whether or not the course was a good test of golf, the putting surfaces themselves, age of the course, and fun.

The seventh Jack Nicklaus International Invitational (JNII) concluded with its international final in May, coinciding with the Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus. The tournament’s ultimate event was played on the course where the Golden Bear first learned the game, Scioto Country Club in
Columbus, Ohio.

The highly touted The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course designed in association with Tony Jacklin and named for one of the most iconic moments in Ryder Cup history, is one of three finalists to host the 2017 Solheim Cup, LPGA communications executive Kraig Kann confirmed.

Kann said the final decision is expected this fall.
