Memorial Tournament The Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance tees off today at Jack Nicklaus' Ohio home course of Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, boasting the strongest field this year for a PGA Tour event. The 120-player field includes World No. 1 Tiger Woods, who returns to defend his 2012 title and try to add to his record five Memorial victories.

Led by Woods, the 38th edition of the prestigious invitational Nicklaus started in 1976 includes, in order, the top six from the Official World Golf Ranking: Woods, two-time major champion Rory McIlroy, Masters winner Adam Scott, 2010 Memorial winner Justin Rose, Brandt Snedeker and Luke Donald. Jack Nicklaus has licensed PeakVision, an innovator and leader in golf-sunglass technology for more than 10 years, to design and promote Jack Nicklaus Signature Eyewear and Golden Bear Sunglasses brands both domestically and globally. This Memorial Day, Jack Nicklaus received a special honor when he was given the Corporal Brock Bucklin Patriot Award presented by the Folds of Honor Foundation. Each year an outstanding individual, committed to serving our men and women in uniform, is presented with the Corporal Brock Bucklin Patriot Award. Past recipients include President George W. U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH-12) have renewed a bicameral legislative push to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Ohio native Jack Nicklaus in recognition of his service to the nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship in golf. Portman originally introduced the measure in May 2012, and companion legislation passed the House during the 112th Congress.

LegendsEvent raised $550,000 for alliance

The Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance recently hosted the third annual Legends Luncheon presented by Nationwide Insurance, a unique, award-winning fundraiser to central Ohio that brings to life the alliance between the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation and Nationwide Children's Hospital. All proceeds of the Legends Luncheon directly benefit the young patients treated and cared for each day at Nationwide Children's.

The 2013 Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches will be played October 14-16 on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville, NC. At elevations of 2,100 to 2,250 feet, the par-71 course is breathtaking and playable, while the southern expose of the course layout provides for four-season golf.

Pisgah National Forest surrounds the course, creating a natural amphitheater with dramatic mountain vistas in every direction. The course features gentle rolling slopes, challenging greens, bentgrass fairways and strong, strategic bunkering. The front nine is routed through the mountain meadows of what was once rolling farmland, while its back nine threads between oaks and evergreens, and around streams and creeks.

The Champions Tour and the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., recently announced that the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship will return to the Desert Mountain Club in 2014 and 2016. The tournament will once again be played on the Cochise Course, one of six courses at the venue designed by sports icon and World Golf Hall of Fame member Jack Nicklaus.

The Charles Schwab Cup Championship was played at Desert Mountain in 2012, but heads to TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif. for the 2013 event. The top-30 players on the Champions Tour money-list at the conclusion of the season are eligible to compete in the limited-field event. Double-points in the season-long race for the Charles Schwab Cup are awarded to all 30 competitors.
