Memorial Tournament offers Limited Number of All-tournament Badges

Thirteen Of Sixteen Winners on Tour In 2002 Have Committed To Play Memorial, Headed By Leonard, Mickelson, Garcia

APRIL 24, 2002 - DUBLIN, Ohio - Tournament officials announced today the release of a limited number of All-Tournament Patron badges to the public for the 2002 Memorial, May 20 - May 26. The badges will go on sale beginning at 8:30 a.m. April 24, 2002.

"This is a unique opportunity for individuals to purchase patron badges. This year we have seen a number of companies reduce their ticket commitment due to the economic slowdown. With this realization we have decided the time is right to offer a limited number of badges to those who may not have been able to previously participate," Tournament Director Dan Sullivan said.

The badges are $140 and are valid Monday, May 20 through Sunday, May 26. Public may call the ticket office weekdays at 614-889-6700 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to purchase badges. A limit of four (4) All-Tournament badges will be available per buyer. Daily tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are still available. The cost is $20 and they are valid for all three practice round days.

The Memorial Tournament has accepted commitments from 13 of 16 winners on Tour this year. The latest being Justin Leonard, who held on for victory in the WORLDCOM CLASSIC, his seventh PGA Tour victory. Leonard set a 54-hole record with rounds of 67, 64, and 66. With this victory he jumps up to 13 on the Official Money List with over $1.2 million.

Phil Mickelson will join the field of 105 for the first time in two years. He is currently 2nd on the Official Money List with almost $2 million on the strength of his 20th career win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in January. The second ranked player in the world has five top-10's in eleven events, including a third place finish in each of his last three tournaments.

Mercedes Championship winner Sergio Garcia will make his third trip to Muirfield Village Golf Club in May. In his two previous appearances at the Memorial, Garcia has finished T11 in 1999 and T2 last year with an impressive 70 scoring average. Through nine events this year on Tour, he has earned over $1.4 million and finished in the top-10 five times.

Joining Leonard, Mickelson and Garcia in the field who have won this year are: 1997 Memorial Winner Vijay Singh, Shell Houston Open; Chris DiMarco, Phoenix Open; Jerry Kelly, Sony Open in Hawaii; Kevin Sutherland, WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship; Len Mattiace, Nissan Open; Matt Kuchar, The Honda Classic; Matt Gogel, AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am; Ian Leggatt, Touchstone Energy Tucson Open; and previously announced this month Ernie Els, Genuity Championship; Craig Perks, THE PLAYERS Championship.
