Jack, Arnie, Watson, Stadler Play Skins

Jack Nicklaus will compete this weekend in the 18th annual Wendy's Champions Skins Game to be held at Wailea Resort in Maui, Hawaii. Rounding out the stellar foursome will be Jack's long-time rival and friend, Arnold Palmer, defending champion Tom Watson, and Skins Game rookie Craig Stadler, the Champions Tour Player of the Year in 2004. The players will compete in a pro-am on Friday, and the 18-hole competition will start on Saturday, with the first nine airing on ABC Sports from 4-6 p.m. ET on Saturday, and the conclusion airing 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

Nicklaus is the all-time Skins winner with 68 and ranks first in money earned with $1,674,000. The Golden Bear is making his 15th Skins' appearance and has finished second five times. Arnie is making a record 17th appearance. The three-time champion also ranks third in skins and fourth in money earned.

"Every time we play, it's fun and special because you never know how much golf we'll play together," said Nicklaus. "Even 40 years after we started, we're still trying to drum each other."

Last year, Nicklaus got on the board first, nabbing two skins and $40,000 with a 15-foot eagle putt on the second hole. Two holes later, he birdied for another skin and $20,000. Palmer had a chance to finish with a victory, but his 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation just missed. Watson claimed the title by making eight birdies and two eagles in his 21 holes of golf to earn 10 skins and $400,000. Watson parred the third playoff hole to earn the final $260,000. Playoffs have decided the outcome of this event four of the last five years.

Each hole of the Skins is a tournament within itself, with the prize money carried over if no player wins a hole outright. The $600,000 total purse is broken down to $20,000 for each of the first six holes, $30,000 for each of the middle six holes, $40,000 each for holes 13 through 17, and $100,000 for the 18th hole. The players will donate at least 10 percent of their winnings to the charity of their choice. Jack will be donating to the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation, which supports the recently opened Nicklaus Children's Hospital at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL.
