Bear's Best Atlanta makes
GOLF's Top 10 You Can Play
Jack II's Pinehills GC named to Honorable Mention list
Photo by Jim Mandeville | Bear's Best Atlanta, a compilation of replica holes from some of Jack
Nicklaus' most famous designs, was named to GOLF Magazine's Top 10 You Can
Play for 2002. Pinehills Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus II-designed course in
Plymouth, Mass., was named to the list of Honorable Mention selections. This
is the seventh year in a row that at least one Nicklaus Design course has
appeared in GOLF's prestigious list of America's top public-access courses,
and its list of Honorable Mention selections.
The honors come on the heels of Nicklaus taking two of the top five picks in
Golf Digest's ranking of America's Best New Private Courses. The Club at
Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, and Mayacama Golf Club in Santa Rosa,
Calif., took Nos. 3 and 5, respectively.
Bear's Best Atlanta, which follows the successful debut of Bear's Best Las
Vegas, is located in Suwanee, Ga., just outside of Atlanta. The layout
features replications representing 11 states, as well as England (St.
Mellion), Ireland (Mt. Juliet) and Scotland (PGA Centenary Course at
Gleneagles). GOLF Magazine paid particular compliment to two replica holes
from Muirfield Village Golf Club.
"It must be a wonderful thing to get to a point in your career when you can
borrow from yourself to produce something of value," GOLF's Brian McCallen
wrote.
"As on all Nicklaus courses, Bear's Best Atlanta offers solid,
straightforward golf with no hidden agendas and all hazards in plain view."
