For over 25 years, the WORLDCOM CLASSIC-The Heritage of Golf has been played
at the Pete Dye/Jack Nicklaus designed Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton
Head, SC. This week is no exception.
The par-71 course measures 6,973 yards
and has been ranked in the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play" by Golf Magazine,
in addition to being named the No. 1 Resort Course in South Carolina by Golf
Digest. Jose Coceres of Argentina is the defending champion and will take
his shot at the $4 million purse, which was increased from $3.5 million last
year.
This will be the 10th consecutive year the purse has been increased,
with the champion receiving a check for $720,000. The first champion of the
tournament, Arnold Palmer, received a check for $20,000 in 1969.
