Bear's Best Las Vegas celebrates grand opening Monday
Golden Bear's most memorable golf holes replicated
in Nicklaus-Club Corp joint venture project
Bear's Best Las Vegas is right at home in a city famous for its
great replications, from the Eiffel Tower to the New York City skyline.
That's because Bear's Best Las Vegas features great replications, too, only
in this case, the replications are from Jack Nicklaus Signature Courses
throughout the world.

Bear's Best Las Vegas is the first of the legendary golfer and designer's
new golf course concepts, in which all holes are faithful replications of
holes from some of his more memorable designs around the world. In the case
of Bear's Best Las Vegas, the replications are from some of his best-known
work in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico.
Monday, April 22, Nicklaus will visit the Bear's Best site to celebrate the
grand opening with invited guests, media and VIPs.
Located in the master-planned community of Summerlin, Bear's Best Las Vegas
opened for play in November 2001. The 18-hole, par-72, 7,194-yard
championship golf course, a joint venture of the Nicklaus Companies and
ClubCorp, serves as the focal point for the exclusive Summerlin village of
The Ridges. It is open for play on a daily-fee basis. Rates vary.
There are four holes taken from Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz.; three
from PGA West in Palm Springs, Calif.; two each from Old Works in Anaconda,
Mont., and Las Campanas in Santa Fe, N.M.; and one hole replication from
seven other courses, including Cabo del Sol in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico,
and Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado.

"Jack has established a reputation as a designer that rivals his storied
golf career," said Adam Owen, Bear's Best operations manager. "Nicklaus is
considered the greatest golfer ever and history will also look back on him
as one of golf's finest designers."
These holes aren't merely inspired by Nicklaus' favorite or most memorable
designs, they are exact replications, capturing the actual feel and
challenge of each hole in its original state. Every detail has been
incorporated, from the signature water-crossing approach shot of PGA West
Resort's 18th hole to the glistening black-slag bunkers of Montana's Old
Works Golf Course.
"In many respects, it's easier to design a course from scratch than to
attempt to fit in replications of holes I've already designed," Nicklaus
said of Bear's Best Las Vegas. "Plus, the varied features and dramatic
topography of this land in Summerlin have presented other challenges, which
we've utilized to create a course that's interesting, diverse and unique."
In a single round, Bear's Best Las Vegas features holes played in some of
the finest PGA and Senior PGA Tour events, as well as the finest private
member courses, coupled with views of the Las Vegas skyline and the majestic
beauty of the surrounding mountains.
With Bear's Best Las Vegas, the Nicklaus Companies and ClubCorp, among the
country's most successful golf course designers and developers, have created
an unforgettable property that is perfectly suited for the Las Vegas market.
The dedication to large group play is evidenced in many ways, including a
75,000-square-foot practice range-twice the size of most golf course
practice ranges-a 3,000-square-foot indoor pavilion and a 5,000-square-foot
outdoor pavilion for pre- and post-tournament receptions and entertaining.
The Bear's Best concept for a mix of golf rounds is as unique as its concept
for course design. While traditional daily fee play will represent a
significant portion of rounds, Bear's Best golf courses are specifically
designed to accommodate the corporate entertainment and recreation needs
that exist in a corporate and convention destination city such as Las Vegas.
The golf course, coupled with the staff's dedication to guest service, makes
Bear's Best the ultimate venue for large and small events looking for a
premier golf experience.
