Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott Commit to The Memorial Tournament
Davis Love III and Brandt Snedeker to host The Memorial’s Clubhouse Kids
Junior Golf Clinic
Dublin, OH - April 30, 2008 - The Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley announced
today that three-time major championship winner Phil Mickelson will compete in the 2008 Memorial. In
addition, Australian sensation Adam Scott, who is coming off a thrilling playoff victory in last week’s EDS
Byron Nelson Championship that lifted him to No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking, will join the field in
the 33rd Memorial Tournament May 26-June 1 at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
On strength of four top-10s in nine events, including a victory at the Northern Trust Open, Mickelson
not only is ranked No. 2 in the world rankings, but he also is second in the 2008 FedExCup points list and World
and PGA TOUR money lists with more than $2.4 million. Mickelson has recorded 33 career PGA TOUR
victories, including the 2004 and 2006 Masters and the 2005 PGA Championship. He has finished in the top-10
in the PGA TOUR money list seven out of the past eight seasons, earning a career-high $5,819,988 in 2007.
Mickelson returns to Muirfield Village Golf Club after a wrist injury forced him to withdraw 11 holes into the
first round of the 2007 Tournament. His scoring average over his nine appearances at the Memorial is 71.60, and
his best finish came in 2006 when he finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with Brandt Jobe and Adam
Scott with a 9-under-par 279 aggregate score.
Scott began his 2008 season with a bang when he fired a final-round, 11-under-par 61 in late January
that broke the course record and set a personal best en route to his victory on the European Tour at the
Commercialbank Qatar Masters. Three months later, he posted his sixth PGA TOUR victory in dramatic fashion
at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship by sinking a nearly 50-foot putt on the third playoff hole to defeat
Ryan Moore, who finished runner-up to K.J. Choi at the 2007 Memorial. Scott is ranked 12th in the 2008
FedExCup points list to go with sixth and ninth in the World and PGA TOUR money lists, respectively. He has
competed in the Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley four of the past five years, with a tie for
fourth in 2006 his best showing. Last year, Scott held the third-round lead after an impressive second-round 62,
one shot shy of John Huston’s course-record 61, set in 1996. Scott finished the Tournament tied for fifth.
In additional news, the Memorial Tournament will host over 500 central Ohio youth during The
Memorial’s Clubhouse Kids 2008 Junior Golf Clinic on Wednesday, May 28. Held at Safari Golf Club, adjacent to the Columbus Zoo, at 5:30p.m., this annual event will feature PGA TOUR Professionals Davis Love
III and Brandt Snedeker, along with the Dennis Walters Golf Show. Love III has 19 PGA TOUR victories,
including the 1997 PGA Championship, in his 20-plus years as a professional. In that time Love III has earned
$35,784,092, placing him fifth on the PGA TOUR career money list. Snedeker was the 2007 PGA TOUR rookie
of the year by way of six top-10 finishes, including his first career PGA TOUR victory at the 2007 Wyndham
Championship. He has recorded four top-10s in 2008, counting a third place finish in his first appearance as a
professional at the Masters.
Open to all Ohio youth, the first 500 participants of the clinic who bring canned food items to donate to
the Mid-Ohio Food Bank will receive a free gift pack. Random prize drawings, including junior golf sets and
two Memorial Patron badges, will also be held. Sponsors of the Junior Golf Clinic include Allstate Insurance,
Fox 28 and ABC 6, Safari Golf Club, Massey’s Pizza, and Presto.
The Junior Golf Clinic is a part of The Memorial’s Clubhouse Kids, a year-round program focused on
bringing golf opportunities to youths. For more information, visit www.memorialclubhousekids.com or call
