Jack Nicklaus recently took a trip to Scotland to encourage
youngsters of the delights of golf.
The Golden Bear is fearful that golf is
lost on much of today's youth and decided to provide some youngsters with some
personal coaching in a bid to persuade them to pick up some golf clubs instead
of a computer game controller.
He feels that the sport is entering a worrying
decline among children, so was optimistic that a private lesson at Turnberry
would lead to a boost in appeal.
According to the Daily Record, he said: "Kids
just don't play golf any more in the United States and it is sad.
"I don't
necessarily care whether kids become tournament golfers. That is not important.
It is just about keeping the game going."
The 18-time major winner added that it would be "horrible" if golf
fell by the wayside as it is a "nice game" and something that he
has been a part of for all his life.
Nicklaus proved successful at all four
golf majors on at least three occasions, with the Masters proving his biggest
success story as he was victorious in the tournament on six occasions.
