Dublin, Ohio - May 23, 2007 - Tournament officials announced today that three-time Memorial winner Tiger Woods will compete in the 32nd Memorial Tournament scheduled for May 28-June 3 at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Also committing to the 2007 Memorial are 1997 winner Vijay Singh and 2006 U.S. Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy. With these commitments in place the Tournament will boast a field that includes 10 out of the top-10 in both FedEx Cup Points and the Tour Money List.
"We are thrilled with the Memorial's field," said executive director Dan Sullivan. "Each year the players show their appreciation for our Tournament and their respect for what Jack has created. We're looking forward to a great week as professional golf's most dominant players come to Central Ohio to compete on one of the finest courses in the world."
On strength of five top-10s in seven events, including victories at the Buick Invitational, the World Golf Championships-CA Championship, and the Wachovia Championship, Woods not only is ranked No. 1 in the world rankings, but also in the FedEx Cup points race and in the World and PGA TOUR money lists with more than $4.1 million. He has posted 10 wins in his last 14 starts and currently ranks first on the PGA TOUR in eagles (holes per) at 61.7 and scoring average with 68.85. Woods has recorded 57 career PGA TOUR victories, including 12 professional major championships, and is the reigning PGA and British Open Champion. Coming off his ninth consecutive season finishing among the top five on the PGA TOUR Money List, Singh has recorded four top-10 finishes in 2007, including wins at the season opening Mercedes-Benz Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He ranks No.3 in FedEx Cup points as well as the World and PGA TOUR money lists with more than $3.2 million. Including his 1997 victory, Singh has six top-10s at the Memorial and ranks fifth and sixth respectively in Tournament scoring average at 70.91 and earnings with $1,355,521.
Ogilvy enjoyed a career 2006 season, posting two wins (including his first major championship at the U.S. Open) and earning more than $4 million, both career-highs in his six years on the Tour. He has recorded three top-10 finishes so far in 2007 and ranks No. 8 in the world rankings and No. 15 in FedEx Cup points. Ogilvy is ranked No. 15 on the Tour Money List and No. 16 on the World Money List with $1,676,274. He will be making his sixth start at the Memorial. In his six previous visits he has recorded a scoring average of 72.45 with his best finish coming in 2005 when he ended in a four-way tie for seventeenth place with Greg Owen, Fredrick Jacobson and Peter Lonard with a 6-under-par 282 aggregate score.
In other Memorial Tournament news the Jack Nicklaus Golf Clinic, held Tuesday, May 29 at 4:30pm, will include 2006 Memorial winner Carl Pettersson and 2007 Masters winner Zach Johnson, both previously released, along with Ian Poulter and Camilo Villegas. Poulter has seven international victories to
