Four Nicklaus designs make Golf For Women's Top 50
Grand Cypress among magazine's top 10 public/resort courses for women
Weighting the quality of design and play, but taking into account aspects
that make for a women-friendly golf course, Golf For Women magazine released
its 2002 list of the 50 Best Courses for Women. Making the list of the
magazine's top public and resort courses were four Jack Nicklaus-designed
layouts, including No. 10 Grand Cypress.
Golf For Women put together a panel that included amateur champions, course
architects, travel writers, members of the Golf Digest ratings' panel, and a
member of the LPGA Hall of Fame. They asked the panel to look at courses
that are "fun, but not simple; challenging, but not torturous," the magazine
said. "A course that offers opportunities for all skill levels is the
essence of women-friendly golf." Evaluating the quality of the layout but
also the entire experience - from atmosphere to amenities - the magazine
came up with its 50 Best Courses for Women.
After Grand Cypress, other Nicklaus designs to make the list were: The
Challenge at Manele (No. 15); Ocean Hammock Golf Club (No. 32); and
Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas (No. 47).
The top-rated course by Golf For Women was the Seaside Course at Sea Island
(GA.) Golf Club.
