Richland Country Club wins 23rd Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches

Richland Country Club out of Nashville ended a 15-year winless run by claiming its first victory in the Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches when the 23rd annual event concluded Oct. 10 at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando. Richland edged out English Turn (New Orleans) and Sycamore Hills (Fort Wayne, Ind.) for the title.

Thirty teams gathered at Grand Cypress, one of Florida's premier resort destinations and home to 45 holes of Jack Nicklaus-designed golf, to represent Nicklaus Design clubs from around the world in the 54-hole tournament. Teams participated in scramble, best-ball and modified chapman formats. Each team consisted of a professional and three members of varying skill levels. Teams accumulated stableford points for their net team scores over three days of play to determine the overall champion.

Eighteen teams qualified for the annual "shootout" competition on the Grand Cypress East nine after the first round. Desert Mountain - Outlaw team from Scottsdale, Ariz. Won the hole-by-hole elimination event and also came away with first place in the putting contest.

Congratulations to each club and competitor in the 23rd Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches and a special thanks to the Grand Cypress Resort for a great job hosting the tournament.
