Team Nicklaus finishes 6th in Del Webb Father/Son

Jack Nicklaus and son Jack II carded a nine-under-par 63 Sunday

12/3/2006-- Jack Nicklaus and son Jack II carded a nine-under-par 63 Sunday, but could not make up any ground on the first-day leaders, as Team Nicklaus finished in a tie for sixth place in the Del Webb Father/Son Challenge at ChampionsGate Golf Resort in Orlando. The sixth-place finish in the scramble format was the Nicklauses' best since losing a playoff to Hale and Steve Irwin in 2003. Team Nicklaus positioned themselves with eight straight closing birdies Saturday for a 10-under 62, earning them a pairing with North Palm Beach County neighbor Greg Norman, and his son Gregory. The Normans joined the Nicklauses in sixth place, along with Tom and David Kite. Each team took home $50,166.67.

The team of Bernhard and Stefan Langer, a 16-year-old member of the Grandview Prep golf team in Boca Raton, won the event for the second straight year, with rounds of 56-61 to edge by a single shot the teams of Bob and Kevin Tway and Vijay and Qass Singh. The Langers took home $200,000 of the $1.085 million purse. Fellow first-day leaders Davis and Dru Love slipped to fourth with a Sunday 64.

The Del Webb Father/Son field is made up of 18 teams, headed by a father who has won at least one major championship.
