The highly anticipated “Best New” list by Golf Digest, the leader in golf course rankings, has named three Nicklaus Design golf courses to its annual list, and Jack Nicklaus’ acclaimed design at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in The Bronx, NY, leads the way as it continues its well-decorated inaugural year. The Golden Bear’s work at Potomac Shores in Prince William County, Va., and the Nicklaus Design course at Magnolia Green Golf Club in Mosely, Va., were the others recognized in Golf Digest’s prestigious ranking.
Golf Magazine, which this time last year named Jack Nicklaus the “Golf Course Architect of the Year,” recently selected Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point as the 2015 “Best New U.S. Course You Can Play.” Ferry Point, the links-style public-access design that sits in the shadows of the Whitestone Bridge and has incredible views of the New York Skyline from most holes, has swept no fewer than nine awards and rankings this year. These include honors that recognize environmental sustainability and municipal golf courses.
For the first time since 2009, and reflecting a positive sign in domestic golf course development, Golf Digest’s ratings involved panelists rather than editors. Comments on the Nicklaus Design trio included:
- Potomac Shores: “Each individual hole is solid.”
- Magnolia Green: “This course surprised me. Really good shot values, and all the holes were different. I loved the imagination of all the green complexes.”
- Ferry Point: “Nicklaus got it right. A links style course that plays firm and fast.”
The recognition is the first of its kind for Nicklaus Design’s Magnolia Green. Potomac Shores earlier this year received “Best for Convenience to City Life” and “Best New U.S. Course You Can Play-Honorable Mention” accolades.
