Royal Blue Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, becomes first Nicklaus Design layout in the Bahamas

Royal Blue Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at the massive Baha Mar resort in Nassau, is now open. With the opening, Baha Mar becomes Nicklaus Design’s first layout in the Bahamas. The global golf course design firm founded by the Golden Bear is widely regarded as the world’s leading design firm with more than over 400 golf courses in 43 countries and 39 U.S. states.
Royal Blue is uniquely designed as two courses in one. The layout features several elevation changes with scenic vistas throughout the round. The front nine holes feature dramatic views of undulating fairways, rolling white sand dunes, brackish ponds, and glimpses of a turquoise Atlantic Ocean.
The back nine showcases a very different look. Players navigate stunning limestone “moonscapes” through dense jungle and steep downhill terrain to get to the island green on the 16th hole, which precariously borders Lake Cunningham.
The course spans 7,189 yards, and the beauty, difficulty and challenge of the design make the layout enjoyable for golfers of all levels.
“Everything at Royal Blue is first-class, from the course conditions to the panoramic views on every hole. It should be on every player’s bucket list,” said C.A. Roberts, president of OB Sports, the boutique-style company that will manage the golf course. “We are so proud of the on-site golf staff we have in place at Royal Blue,” continued Roberts. “Our former Senior VP of Operations, Sean Cracraft, will serve as Director of Golf at Royal Blue, and long-time OB veteran Andy Deiro as Head Golf Professional.” “OB Sports has already come in and done a wonderful job helping our golf shop, and the golf course itself, reflect our mission of giving our players a world class experience,” said Cracraft. “The impeccable conditions of the course really speak for themselves.”
Players will find various characteristics about Royal Blue that will make for lasting memories, like the different tees set up every day. Each morning, a staff member will determine tee locations on the course, taking into account weather and playing conditions, to create a unique, but playable, golfing experience. By using freeform teeing areas rather than traditional tee boxes, any hole can be shortened or lengthened by as many as 100 yards from day to day. This will allow guests to play several variations of the course during their stay, while adhering to a similar overall yardage.
Royal Blue Golf Club is part of a $4.2 billion luxury beachfront resort development, Baha Mar, that will ultimately include three world-class hotels; more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges; the largest casino in the Bahamas; and more than 30 luxury retail outlets. In addition to the Royal Blue Golf Club, the first phase opening includes the preview of The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar; Baha Mar Casino; The Baha Mar Convention, Art and Entertainment Center; Peter Burwash International tennis courts and facilities; multiple restaurants, bars and lounges; select ESPA spa experiences; the resort’s extensive pool and beach areas and the entry show lakes and fountain shows choreographed to music, film and lights.
