Nicklaus Design Around the Globe
Opened in 2010, Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea (JNGCK) starred as the host venue this month for the third edition of the UL International Crown earlier this month, as the top female players from around the world gathered in South Korea to “crown” the best golf nation in the world. The global team match-play event is the first of its kind in women’s professional golf, and this year tested 32 players against the 6,508-yard, par-72 Nicklaus masterpiece.
“This is one of the most remarkable and successful real estate development stories in the world,” said John Reese, CEO, Nicklaus Companies. “As a company, we were so proud to play a part in the creation of Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea as the centerpiece to an entire city built on reclaimed land from the Incheon Harbor.  Jack designed an incredible course that has now hosted prominent PGA TOUR, PGA Tour Champions and LPGA Tour events. Perhaps most importantly, the members who play there every day enjoy the experience at the club, not to mention it being called the top facility in Korea.”
This month’s UL International Crown marked a second landmark showcase in three years for JNGCK in the realm of the premier international golf competitions, as the property also famously hosted the 2015 President’s Cup. The Korean Team proved a formidable host nation in winning this year’s UL International Crown, as the team of Sung Hyun Park, In-Kyung Kim, In Gee Chun and So Yeon Ryu earned a total of 15 points, finishing four points ahead of both the United States and England.
Meanwhile, last weekend the LPGA’s KEB Hana Bank Championship returned for the tenth consecutive time to Nicklaus Design’s stunning layout of the Ocean Course at Sky 72 Golf Club located just across the Incheon Bridge from JNGCK. Recognized as a perennial favorite Tour stop and course amongst LPGA players, the Ocean Course is one of four 18-hole courses at the Sky 72 complex, and the only layout at the club created by Nicklaus Design.
The Ocean Course, which opened for play in 2007, sits beautifully on top of cliffs with stunning views over the harbor. On Sunday, In Gee Chun captured her first LPGA Tour victory of the season, as the 24-year-old South Korean recorded seven birdies en route to a final-round 66, finishing three shots clear of the field.
Transitioning to business back Stateside, the Nicklaus Design staff is actively developing a number of exciting projects domestically, including the renovation of the Great Waters course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Lake Oconee, Georgia; redesigning and renovating the famous Renegade course at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona; new redesign work on Florida State University’s golf course in Tallahassee, Florida, and are under construction at Via Mizner Golf and City Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

Celebrating Another Memorable Year of Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches
Nicklaus Courses from around the world gathered this month to share in camaraderie as well as competition for Nicklaus bragging rights at the annual Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches (JNCM).  Hosted at the spectacular Reflection Bay Golf Club in Lake Las Vegas, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course opened in 1998. This 35threnewal of the inter-club event had representatives from four different continents, showcasing the diverse international footprint of Nicklaus courses.
This year, we congratulate and celebrate the winning Cup Matches team from Richland Country Club — Chris Whitmore (pro), John Austin, Iain Briggs, and Marc Bennett — as well as our Shootout Champions from Barrington Golf Club — Mark Sierak (pro), John Warcaba, Tom Skerl and Jeff Moore.
“The Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches are an experience unlike anything else in golf,” said Whitmore. “It’s a thrill for our members to participate and hold such a distinct association with the Nicklaus brand and family of golf courses. To win makes an already memorable week just that much more special for our Club.”
A little on the history of the Cup Matches: In 1983, golf professionals from four Nicklaus Design courses conceived the idea of an annual competition among the members of their clubs. The concept gave rise to the first Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches that took place in the spring of 1984. Now, as Nicklaus Design continues to grow its network of over 415 golf courses in 45 countries, the Cup Matches attract teams from around the world. Since its inception, the matches have been held for the fun of the game and for the challenge of competing among the Nicklaus family of courses. It is a 54-hole competition, and each team consists of 3 amateurs with the golf professional as the playing team captain.

Nicklaus Brand Ambassadors Will Wilcox (Web.com Tour) and Kenny Perry (Champions Tour) will be again be wearing Jack Nicklaus® Apparel during their respective Tour seasons. Perry, who in August secured his 10th Champions Tour victory at the 3M Championship, has been vocal about Jack Nicklaus® Apparel as a performance leader, while Wilcox has stressed the youthful appeal in the fashion styling.
