Jack Nicklaus Opens the Masters with Tee Shot for ‘Play Yellow’ Children’s Charity
Six-time Masters winner Jack Nicklaus hit a ceremonial tee shot last week to open the 84th Masters Tournament and donated the hat and glove he wore to raise money for children’s hospitals. The Children’s Miracle Network, Nicklaus Companies, and GOLF.com joined forces for perhaps one of the most rare and unique auctions in sports. With the help of long-time Nicklaus partner AHEAD headwear, as well as ASHER golf gloves, the Golden Bear wore a special Play Yellow glove and hat for the occasion, then signed both items and donated them to CMN to auction via its Play Yellow website https://golf.com/lifestyle/jack-nicklaus-signed-masters-memorabilia-play-yellow-charity/. The first collaboration between these two iconic golf brands featured an exclusive collection of irons ($2,750) that sold out online in less than three days. Forged from premium soft carbon steel (S20C), the Nicklaus set is a one-of-a-kind offering that will be delivered to customers beginning in March. Design work is already underway with Miura and Nicklaus for a new player development club set for 2021.

Nicklaus Brands recently completed a license with eGolf International, LLC, the No. 1 golf retailer in the Middle East, to distribute Jack Nicklaus Apparel in the region. The Jack Nicklaus collection will be featured in specialty golf stores, golf courses, and online in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, and Jordan.

In its seventh year as a Nicklaus partner, Southwest Greens is setting records for the distribution of Golden Bear Turf and the design of custom home putting greens in a surge of home construction projects this year. The GOLF.com production team recently documented custom turf projects in Florida, Georgia, and Arizona that capture the video evolution of design and construction of Nicklaus Design/Southwest Greens home greens: the story will air on GOLF.com in December. Jack and Barbara Nicklaus traveled to the eastern shores of Lake Michigan last month for a special preview event at the recently completed American Dunes Golf Club. Inspired by his patriotism and passion to support our veterans, Jack helped Lt. Col. Dan Rooney see his dream become reality at American Dunes, which supports American warriors and funds the legacies of their families through the Folds of Honor. The public can look forward to enjoying the course when it officially opens on May 1, 2021.
- Family Fun in Tennessee The Cheekwood Golf Club announced this month its selection of Nicklaus Design to transform its existing course into a family-friendly, 9-hole golf experience. “We are a family-focused community, and Nicklaus Design is the perfect partner to create something new and fun for our community,” said Todd Jester of Cheekwood. Chris Cochran is leading the Nicklaus Design team and looks to bring more innovation and fun to the golf experience. Located in Franklin, Tennessee, the new Cheekwood layout will also feature a state-of-the-art practice and teaching facility that can be enjoyed by golfers of all ages.
Kilada Hills unveiled design plans for its Jack Nicklaus Signature course set amongst the olive groves and hills overlooking the quaint fishing village in Kilada, Greece. Just a short drive from Porto Heli and the Greek Riviera, Kilada Hills is a beautiful sanctuary with vistas of the Mediterranean Sea. The par-72, 18-hole championship course is under construction and will be the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in the Eastern Mediterranean when it opens in 2022.
Our partners at the BRG Group in Vietnam have been active with three Nicklaus Design courses now open for play and another five projects currently under construction or in planning. The Da Nang Golf Course recently completed a planned re-grassing project that started in February and opened for play at the end of April to rave reviews.
Royal Golf Club in Ninh Binh is well underway with an aggressive construction schedule. The Nicklaus Design team, led by Jack Nicklaus II and Senior Designer Jim Wagner, is creating a special design incorporating this picturesque, hilled site with beautiful mountain views and will be a premier golf destination in the region.
