Charles Schwab Cup Championship moves to Desert Mountain in 2012
cochiseThe Champions Tour and the Desert Mountain Club announced today that its season-ending event, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, will be hosted next year by the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Cochise Course, one of six at the facility designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, will be the venue for the championship.

The October 2011 issue of Golf Magazine revealed the magazine’s first-ever Fab Foursome Bracket Challenge, a March Madness style showdown featuring 64 of the biggest names who love golf, including everyone from US Open winners to Oscar winners. After receiving more than 300,000 votes from fans far and wide, the foursome people would love to play with the most included golf legend Jack Nicklaus, former United States President Bill Clinton, 6-time NBA champion Michael Jordan and actor/comedian Bill Murray.

Golf Club a success
Deemed a success by Club officials and a “blast” by participants, Jack Nicklaus’ recent experiment of 12-hole tournaments over the Labor Day holiday achieved what the Golden Bear had hoped by bringing in golfers of all ages, including women, children and some who had been estranged from the game, and opened the eyes of all that golf is and can be fun, especially when played faster.

Muirfield Village Golf Club, as part of its Labor Day weekend golf festivities, hosted two separate 12-hole tournaments, during which golfers were encouraged to play one tee up from where they normally play, the hole was almost doubled in size to 8 inches, and participants were penalized...

Jack Nicklaus is overseeing a renovation to Valhalla Golf Club that aims to modernize the major-championship venue’s greens, improve drainage and irrigation throughout, enhance the stature of the Top 100-ranked facility for its members, and begin preparations to host the 96th PGA Championship in August 2014.

Palace Resorts recently opened state-of-the-art Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf facilities at three of its properties in greater Cancun, Mexico. Each location features Nicklaus Academy professional instructors that have been trained by Mike Malaska, Director of Instruction at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club and recipient of this year’s PGA Teacher of the Year Award, as to the proven Nicklaus philosophy and system.
Mike Malaska named 2011 PGA of America National Teacher of the Year
MalaskaMike Malaska, the PGA Director of Instruction at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in Superstition, Ariz., who pioneered a standard of physical fitness evaluation for all golfers that evolved into today’s model program, is the recipient of the PGA Teacher of the Year Award. The award was established in 1986, honoring outstanding teachers of golf among the PGA of America membership.

Malaska, 57, a 31-year member of the PGA of America, oversees the development, implementation, training and certification of all professional instructors at Jack Nicklaus Golf Academies and Golf Centers around the world.
