Greats of Golf competition at the Champions Tour’s 2015 Insperity Invitational

The team of Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino stirred memories of yesteryear, finishing with a two-shot win in the Greats of Golf competition during the second round of the Champions Tour’s Insperity Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club outside Houston. The trio jumped out with a 20-foot birdie putt from Jack on the third hole and never looked back. The Golden Bear’s drive and approach to six feet on No. 12 set up another birdie to push them to nine under. They went on a birdie run from Nos. 13 to 15, and then closed with a birdie on 18 when Jack dropped a putt from 10 feet. Their 13-under finish was good enough for a two-shot victory over the team of Don January, Tony Jacklin and Dave Stockton. The trio of David Graham, Tom Weiskopf and Charles Coody finished a shot back at 10 under. “I always have fun,” Jack said after the win. “It’s just that my expectations are normally higher than the results. But we had fun. I holed a bunch of putts early, and everybody said, ‘Boy, you’re really putting well!’ Then I didn’t make a putt for about 10 holes. But we made a lot of birdies and had fun.”
